What to visit:
Wineries: Haro is known as the wine capital of La Rioja, so you can't miss a visit to one of its wineries. Some of the most famous are Bodegas López de Heredia and Bodegas Muga.
Plaza de la Paz: This square is the heart of the historic centre of the city. Here you can find some bars and restaurants, as well as the church of Santo Tomás.
Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Vega: This basilica is one of the most important in La Rioja. It was built in the 16th century and has an impressive baroque altarpiece.
Bridge of Briñas: This Roman bridge is one of the oldest in La Rioja. It was built in the 2nd century and is located over the river Ebro.
Parque de la Vega: This park is an oasis of tranquillity in the centre of the city. It has a botanical garden and an artificial lake.
What to eat:
Pinchos: Haro is known for its tradition of serving small snacks, known as pinchos, along with drinks. Some of the most popular are potato omelette, cod or ham.
Patatas a la riojana: This dish is a potato stew with chorizo, garlic and paprika. It is very tasty and comforting.
Chuletillas al sarmiento: This dish consists of lamb chops roasted with branches of vine shoots. The smoky flavour of the branches of vine shoots gives the meat a special touch.
Regional wines: Haro is known for its wines, so we recommend you try some of the local wines, such as those made from the Tempranillo grape.
Torrijas: This dessert is typical of Easter and is made with bread, milk, eggs and sugar. It is a delicious way to end the meal.
